Cricket season 2006
Seeing as the first test match starts today it seems as good a time as any to make my first cricket post of the season.
So far the games in which I have been involved have been competitive, maybe more so than at the start of last season, but I’ve only managed to come out on the winning side on one occasion.
ORP should have played three games by now but on turning up at our first game we discovered that a wicket had not been prepared for the game. As this was our home game it looks as though we’ll lose the points. The second match, in which I was not involved, was a close game against St. George’s Rovers. We managed 141 batting first but ended up losing by 2 wickets. Last Saturday’s game was one of the closest I’ve been involved in. Before the final ball was bowled the scores were tied and Civil Service had only one wicket remaining. They managed to sneak and bye off the last ball and the game was lost. An extraordinary game with numerous twists, we somehow managed to lose 8 wickets for only 17 runs in our innings. I was one of the 8 managing only 1 run.
CCC have played three games, two league and one cup. We lost two close league games both going to the last over. We managed to win last night away to third division (the division below us) Humshaugh in the cup though we had a bit of a scare chasing 106 to win. We were reduced to 3/4 after four overs before recovering to win with three overs to spare.
