Ko Mook

Ko Mook

Despite the grey skies with ominous looking clouds looming we decided to take a risk and head to the island of Ko Mook. At that stage anything seemed better than hanging around in Trang any longer!

Ko Mook is one of the less developed islands in the Andaman sea. We had phoned ahead to book accommodation which was fortunate as, on arrival, we realised that, apart from the expensive Charlie’s resort which dominated the tiny island, rooms were thin on the ground. We stayed at the lovely Hat Farang Bungalows where only two of their huts had been completed after renovation. As a result we had the place, and the undivided attention of the friendly staff, to ourselves.

We enjoyed three days on Ko Mook and, despite the rather persistent rain, managed to relax and appreciate the tranquillity of the beautiful island.

The highlight of our time on Ko Mook was a trip to the emerald cave. A longtail took us on the short trip to the cave’s entrance. We jumped into the sea and swam one hundred metres through the cave – some of which was in complete darkness. We were rewarded with a stunning tiny beach partially covered over head by rocks with a chimney just big enough to let in the light revealing the emerald green water and white sand.

The rest of our time on Mook was spent lying on the beach and snorkeling and, when raining, reading and playing scrabble on our veranda.
