Neil Young, Hammersmith Apollo

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

On Sunday I got the chance to see another of my heroes. Neil didn’t let me down producing a fantastic show. 25 songs and nearly three hours worth of fantastic music. The show was split into two sets. The first half with Neil on his own and the second set seeing him accompanied by Ben [...]

Belfast and Field Music

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

I was in Belfast last weekend watching the Ospreys take on Ulster in the Heineken Cup. Had a very good weekend, lots of pubs, lots of Guinness and good food. The match itself was a tedious affair, another ruined by the whistle of Malcolm Changleng. The Ospreys now need to win their last two [...]

Gigs

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Newcastle has played host to some great gigs over the last few weeks. I’ve seen Euros Childs, Happy Mondays, Super Furry Animals, Iron & Wine and Arcade Fire. Much to my disappointment The Decemberists cancelled their appearance at the Academy.
The Iron & Wine performance was in Hall Two at The Sage. This was the first [...]

Welsh psychedelic pop and runs

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Two great new albums out this week The Miracle Inn from Euros Childs (his third album in eighteen months) and Hey Venus! from the Super Furry Animals. Looking forward to seeing them both live in Newcastle over the next couple of months.
I scored 64 last Saturday against Tynemouth. Should really have gone on and bagged [...]

Patti Smith

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

We went to The Sage yesterday to see Patti Smith. A fantastic show, she and her band were excellent. There was a good mix of her own material and the covers from her new album Twelve. The encore included Smells Like Teen Spirit and a fantastic version of Helpless.
She was amused and confused by [...]

Cricket and Gruff

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Played first cricket match of the season on Saturday. We bowled out St. George’s Rovers for 87 but we could only score 85 in reply. I was feeling comfortable on 17 when I was run out with only 10 needed to win.
We went to see Gruff Rhys last night. It was a fantastic show. Wonderfully [...]

Bob Dylan

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Well, I finally saw Bob Dylan for the first time last week at the Metro Radio Arena. We had fantastic seats near the centre eleven rows back. I was very excited before the gig and Bob didn’t let us down, it was an excellent show. His voice was much better than I was expecting and [...]

Musical first quarter of 2007

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Gruff Rhys’ second solo album, Candylion, was released in February. I’ve really enjoyed this record, Gruff’s brand of mellow psychedelia really hits the spot. Favourite tracks include Beacon in the Darkness and the extremely catchy Gyrru Gyrru Gyrru. Looking forward to seeing Gruff live at All Saint’s Church next month. From what I’ve heard it [...]

Joanna Newsom at The Sage

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Rhian and I finally got around to seeing a concert at The Sage Gateshead on Tuesday night. We went to see Joanna Newsom accompanied by the Northern Sinfonia. It was a fantastic show. She sounded amazing live and hall one is a wonderful place to listen to music. The support wasn’t bad either.
I’m currently enjoying [...]

Archos Gmini XS 202S MP3 player and Sennheiser HD 201 Headphones

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

Last week I finally decided to get myself a digital audio player of some description. I conceded that I wasn’t going to get the features set (in particular a DAB radio) which I was looking so I had to compromise.
What I required:

USB mass storage
Automatically generated ID3 tag library
>20GB of disk space

The Archos XS 202s was [...]
