Belfast and Field Music

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

I was in Belfast last weekend watching the Ospreys take on Ulster in the Heineken Cup. Had a very good weekend, lots of pubs, lots of Guinness and good food. The match itself was a tedious affair, another ruined by the whistle of Malcolm Changleng. The Ospreys now need to win their last two [...]

Try of the season?

Quite possibly.

Edinburgh 2007

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

We went to Edinburgh for the 6 Nations match last week. Possibly the most inept performance I’ve ever witnessed (and I watched Swansea during the pre-regionalisation season). I can’t see us scoring a try this season never mind winning a match. The performance could not have been more different than that of two years [...]

A weekend in Lombardy

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Spent the weekend in Italy. Stayed in Brescia which, despite it’s billing, turned out to have an attractive city centre with some good restaurants and bars.
Enjoyed a ten course ‘tasting menu’ on Friday night. About eight of the course included polenta, which is preferred in Lombardy to rice and pasta.
On Saturday we took the train [...]

Paris

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Rhian and I spent the weekend in Paris. We watched the Ospreys put in a respectful performance at the Stade Jean Bouin against Stade Français. It was certainly a more competitive match than the last time I watched the Ospreys in France.
For Sunday lunch at we ate at the Bofinger brasserie. It was the first [...]

Languedoc

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Rhian, Mam and I spent last week in the Languedoc region of France. We stayed in the village of Capestang which is the Hérault département north of Narbonne and west of Béziers.
While we were there we visited Béziers, Pézenas, Carcassonne, Narbonne, Sète, Agde, Marseillan, Oppidum d’Ensérune and the Haut-Languedoc (Parc naturel régional du Haut-Languedoc). We [...]

Heineken Cup 2006/7

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

Well next season’s draw for the Heineken Cup pools has taken place and it’s only marginally less daunting than last seasons.
Trips to Paris, Calvisano and Stockport may well be on the cards.

WRUin

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

After two years of unbridled optimism Welsh rugby has reverted to type. It’s good to know that as well as being able to serve up rugby ambrosia we are still able to shoot ourselves in the foot like no one else.
Hopefully Scott Johnson will stay on now he has the top job. The candidates after [...]

A weekend of 6 nations rugby, indoor cricket and a disappointing steak

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

Rhian took me out for a belated birthday meal on Friday night. We went to the recently opened (ish) Le Normand on Low Friar street. I found the idea of this place rather exciting. An unpretentious traditional French restaurant. Unfortunately the quality of the food didn’t live up to my expectations. I asked for a [...]
