The Seagull

Friday, July 6th, 2007

Last night we completed our cultural fortnight courtesy of the RSC with The Seagull at the Theatre Royal. A thoroughly enjoyable production, brilliantly performed, I didn’t need to keep pinching Rhian’s hand to keep her awake during the second half.
Reviews: 1, 2, 3.

King Lear

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Rhian and I went to the Theatre Royal on Friday night to see the RSC’s production of King Lear with Ian McKellen in the leading role. It was an outstanding performance with McKellen and William Gaunt, as the Earl of Gloucester, particularly impressive.
It was possible to enjoy the play from our precarious perch in the [...]

King John

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Rhian and I made our annual visit to the RSC’s Newcastle Season last night. This year we went to see the rarely performed King John. The performance was as impressive as ever with excellent acting and great sound and lighting but the story is not as riveting as those of the other RSC productions we’ve [...]

Northern Stage

Friday, October 6th, 2006

We went to see Kneehigh Theatre’s production of Cymbeline at the newly refurbished Northern Stage on Wednesday. The production was part of the RSC’s Complete Works Festival. We enjoyed it very much though as with most things we go to see it was slated in the Guardian.
Next week we’re going to see Dylan Thomas, Return [...]

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Rhian and I went to the Theatre Royal on Friday night to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was excellent. I thought I’d never laugh whilst watch a Shakespeare play but this had some funny moments.
Some reviews: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

The Crucible

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

Rhian and I went to The People’s Theatre last night to see the Arthur Miller play The Crucible. It was very good though some of the accents were a bit dodgy.

Under Milk Wood and rugby

Monday, June 14th, 2004

Rhian and I went along to the Theatre Royal on thursday night to watch the Wales Theatre Company’s production of Under Milk Wood. It was absolutley brilliant. Must go to the theatre more often.
Fluid came up trumps again as far as the rugby was concerned. Wales would have won quite convincingly if they we [...]
